Karin Ferrari - Decoding Lady Gaga's Bad Romance (The Whole Truth), 2011/16

Lady Gaga is one of the most prominent pop artists in the world. She is world-renowned for her experimental approach to music and images and often moves on the verge of the provoking. Visual images play an important role in Gaga’s universe, and especially the artist’s music videos have helped create the phenomenon Lady Gaga. Her music videos are often described as short films in whitch the music is framed by a visual and symbolic story.

In the art work DECODING Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance, the artist Karin Ferrari decodes Gagas ‘Bad Romance’ (2009) and reads the music video’s visual meassages and mythical references. The work is part of the artist’s series DECODING (THE WHOLE TRUTH), where she combines academic theory and pop culture and reveals hidden visual messages in music videos.
