From the 1960’s and onwards, Bucharest was inhabited by an increasing number of stray dogs – a remnant from a time where the Ceausescu government wiped out several village-like areas of the city. The surviving guard dogs began to roam the city and started breeding, resulting in 65.000 dogs living in the city in 2013. After a serious accident, the government decided to remove them. Despite this new law, a large number of dogs are still roaming the city streets. Nanna Debois Buhl has an investigating, almost anthropological approach in her practice and in this video, she presents the movement of the dogs and their encounters with humans. The existence of the dogs illustrates how humans rule the laws of nature by means of culture and politics.
